"Consolidating Empire" is funded by the European Research Council and based at Leiden University, The Netherlands
The project ‘Consolidating Empire’ ran from January 2012 to January 2016 and aimed to study the almost entirely excavated Late Bronze Age fortress or dunnu Tell Sabi Abyad in the context of the Middle Assyrian Empire.
The team consisted of three PhD researchers, a research assistant, assyriologist Frans Wiggerman and project director Bleda Düring. Professor Peter Akkermans and Professor René Cappers serve as advisors to the project and supervise the PhD researchers.
The project is funded by an ERC Starting Grant and is accommodated by the University of Leiden, Faculty of Archaeology and takes place in cooperation with The Dutch National Museum of Antiquities.
