On March the 15th and 16th we organized the symposium “Understanding Hegemonic Practices of the Early Assyrian Empire”. We are looking back on a fruitful and enjoyable meeting and are grateful to all participators who contributed to the success of the symposium. Click on the following link to view the photos.

The project ‘Consolidating Empire’ has started in January 2012 and aims to study the almost entirely excavated Late Bronze Age fortress or Dunnu Tell Sabi Abyad in the context of the Middle Assyrian Empire. The research will be executed by a team consisting of three PhD researchers, a research assistant, assyriologist Frans Wiggerman and project director Bleda Düring. Professor Peter Akkermans and Professor René Cappers serve as advisors to the project and supervise the PhD researchers. The project is funded by an ERC Starting Grant and is accommodated by the University of Leiden, Faculty of Archaeology and takes place in cooperation with The Dutch National Museum of Antiquities.
